How to Master Pinterest SEO and get to First Rank as a New blogger!

If you're familiar with Pinterest marketing, you know that Pinterest is a huge source of traffic for blogs, online businesses, and other websites. This is because Pinterest works like a search engine.

Yes, it is! Pinterest is a search engine, not a social media platform. Don't let all those follower tabs distract you.

If you compare Pinterest to other social media platforms, you'll quickly notice that Pinterest posts (also known as pins) have a much longer lifespan than other social media posts. The typical lifespan of a tweet, Instagram post, or Facebook update is anywhere between hours and days.

Now contrast with Pinterest. Average pin life is 6 months.

And the good news is that optimizing the pins can make them last even longer. So if you know what you're doing, you can keep getting free traffic from Pinterest on autopilot every month. This is exactly what Pinterest SEO (search engine optimization) is for. Now that you know why you should focus on Pinterest SEO, let's see how.

How to master Pinterest SEO

Pinterest SEO Primer: Keyword Research

Pinterest SEO starts with keyword research. You can't rank anything #1 if you don't even know what you want to rank.

For best results, we recommend doing some keyword research before you start writing your blog post. There's nothing worse than spending three hours writing a blog post, only to realize no one was interested in reading it, right?

Keyword research is essential to avoid such a situation.

There are currently three ways to do keyword research on Pinterest: 1) direct search 2) Pinterest ads (free!) 3) AudienceInsights.

Each of these methods is a great way to find keywords for your blog posts, but one of them serves a slightly different purpose. If you have absolutely no idea what to write about or what your Pinterest followers are interested in, AudienceInsights is your go-to guide tool.

Then, once you know what topics you should follow, you can implement direct search and Pinterest ads.

Keyword research by direct search

The easiest way to find keywords on Pinterest is direct search. What this means is that once you have an overview of what you want to write about, say Korean skin care, go to Pinterest and type in Korean skin care.

Now you will see a colorful box under Search. These are popular related keywords and subtopics that are often searched in conjunction with your main keyword. The most popular keywords are on the left. For example, for my keywords Korean skin care, popular related keywords are products, routine, and flawless skin.

You need to make sure your primary keyword has at least 5 colorful boxes. If not, your keywords aren't wide enough and you might benefit from opening them up a bit more.

Personally, when I look for topic ideas, I copy it into my notebook and write down all the information. So for this keyword, my main blog post ideas will be Korean skin care products and Korean skin care routines.

If you look at the top results for this keyword in the front row, you'll see that a good blog post title can be your ultimate guide to 10 step Korean skin care, 10 best Korean skin care products, and more. List articles seem to be doing really well!

Keyword research with Pinterest ads

Keyword research with Pinterest ads may seem a little daunting, but it's not. When using this tool for research, you can relax knowing that you are not spending money on advertising.

Then click Ads -> Create Ad -> Continue (first page) and scroll down on the second page. It will be displayed in the following manner.

This is a keyword research tool that I use to come up with blog post ideas and optimize my Pins later.

What makes this tool so great is that you can see how many people on average type keywords on Pinterest each month. With this tool, you can easily measure the potential number of people you can reach for each keyword.

For my keyword korean skincare, it goes something like this.

From here, it's easy to see that the best topics for our blog posts are along the lines of the best Korean skin care products. This is because combining these keywords will generate the most search traffic.

Keyword Research with Audience Insights

As I said before, audience insights are a great way to find topics to blog if you don't have an idea your audience is interested in.

The only way Audience Insights works is for people who follow you. Following these topic suggestions will increase your chances of attracting visitors to your site as they will naturally be interested in what you are writing.

To access Audience Analytics, go to Analytics -> Audience Insights in the upper left corner of Smart Feed.

Then click Affinity to organize topics according to popularity. It will be displayed in the following manner.

Affinity shows how interested your audience is in a particular topic compared to other Pinterest users. Of course, the audience percentage tells you how many people in your audience are interested in that particular topic.

The best topics to go with have a high affinity and a high percentage of an engaged audience. You can scroll through the data to see if there's anything you'd like to write about that's particularly interesting.

You can then search for your exact keywords using either the direct search method or the Pinterest advertising method.

Optimize your pins for SEO

Now that you've completed the process of identifying keywords to target in your blog post, it's time to create your blog post. in this example. Imagine I posted about the 10 best Korean skincare products for flawless skin

Then create a pin (want to learn how? Check out this post: 10 tips on how to create a viral pin for Pinterest ) and a fully SEO optimized for your pin Come up with keywords.

So let's dive straight in!

Finding keywords to include in your Pinterest description looks exactly like identifying a topic you want to write about. So the first place to start is direct search.

Again, enter Korean skin care products

Then copy all the most popular keywords related to the article into a Word document.

Copy the keywords Flawless Skin, Anti-Aging, Best, Acne, Whitening, Kbeauty, Cheap for my pins.

Note: All of these should be used in conjunction with the original keyword. For example, Perfect Skin is actually Korean skin care product Perfect Skin.

Then go back to your Pinterest ad and repeat the same process. To quickly copy a keyword, use the [+] button to add the keyword to the notepad on the left. Therefore, for the keywords "Korean skin care" and "Korean skin care products", we chose the following keywords:

From here I can easily copy these keywords into my Word document. We recommend finding at least 10 keywords that you can integrate into your Pins.

Here is a complete list of keywords to use to come up with pin descriptions.

Now is the time to start writing your pin description. For best results, it's important to include 5-10 different keywords in your Pin description along with your hashtag.

Hashtags on Pinterest primarily serve as SEO signals. That means you should use hashtags for your most relevant keywords. We recommend using at least three hashtags, but more if possible.

Note that there is no limit on hashtags, but there is a 500 character limit on pin length.

Pinterest recommends writing natural-sounding descriptions that aren't keyword-stuffed. But keep in mind that very few people actually read the description. They are primarily there to rank for keywords. So eloquent writing is not the top priority here.

For my keywords, this is the explanation I came up with:

10 Best Korean Skin Care Products For Perfect Skin: These are the top 10 Korean skin care products for anti-aging acne and whitening! If you're looking for inexpensive yet effective Korean skincare products to implement into your Korean skincare routine, start with these fan favorites. Kbeauty skincare products are highly rated by users who claim they are the best products for flawless skin and anti-aging. #koreanskincare #koreanskincareproducts #koreanskincareroutine #flawlessskin #kbeauty #antiaging

You can see here that we are trying to implement as many keywords as possible. We also try to sound semi-natural in our descriptions and not overstuff with the keywords we use.

Optimize your profile for SEO

Pinterest SEO is more than just optimizing your Pins by keyword. Board and profile should also be considered. In fact, they can have a big impact on the results you can expect from your Pinterest marketing efforts.

First of all, you want to make sure your profile is optimized for the keywords you want to rank for. for example. Looking at my profile, you can see that my main keywords are all related to women's fashion. I entered keywords in the name and description box.

I recommend doing the same and using popular and broad keywords (Pinterest advertising tools can help you figure out which ones to use!). Be as brand-specific as possible.

Optimize your board for Pinterest SEO

Next, I want to focus on Pinterest boards. Properly keywording your board is just as important as properly keywording your Pins. This is no joke.

A pin with a good SEO description combined with a board with a good SEO description will show results much faster.

The key to the board is to be as specific as possible. There used to be a time when Pinterest relied heavily on follower count, showing every pin in a board to every account following that board. But now things have changed.

Pinterest has made it clear that it wants to move in the direction of a search engine rather than a social media platform, so follower count no longer matters so much.

This is great news for anyone just starting out on Pinterest. Focus on SEO and you'll likely see as many Pins as an account with hundreds of thousands of followers.

For this reason, it's a good idea to focus on niching down your board as much as possible. So, for example, instead of using a broad and vague board called Beauty & Makeup, it's much better to use a board like Korean Beauty Products or DIY Beauty. This is to tell Pinterest exactly what your board is about.

To find keywords there, you can use the direct search method.

So let's say I wanted to create a board that focuses on Korean beauty. If you type KoreanBeauty into Pinterest's search bar, you'll see:

All of these keywords that pop up in search are great candidates to use on your board. We recommend choosing the most specific keywords that best describe your content.

As we have previously determined, Korean skin care products are a great keyword to use, and that's exactly what we use for our board of directors as well.

Now, all we need to add is the board description. I always follow the same protocol I use for pins. This means using about 10 popular keywords in your board description and adding at least 3 hashtags. This is the board description for my Korean skincare product board:

Then you are good to go!

BONUS TYPE: Always pin your pins to the most relevant boards first for best results . This means that if you have more than one board to post your Pin on, choose the one that is closest to what your Pin is about. This is another Pinterest SEO signal that helps Pinterest know exactly what your pin is about and increase its visibility.

For example, pins from Korean skin care products articles are pinned directly to this board first and then scheduled to other beauty boards.
